"Flow States"

Positive experiences of "Flow State"

Books by Csikszentmihályi suggest that enhancing the time spent in flow makes our lives more happy and successful. Flow experiences are predicated to lead to positive affect as well as to better performance.[30][66] For example, delinquent behavior was reduced in adolescents after two years of enhancing flow through activities.[67]

People who have experienced flow, describe the following feelings:

  1. Completely involved in what we are doing - focused, concentrated.
  2. A sense of ecstasy - of being outside everyday reality.
  3. Great inner clarity - knowing what needs to be done, and how well we are doing.
  4. Knowing that the activity is doable - that our skills are adequate to the task.
  5. A sense of serenity - no worries about oneself, and a feeling of growing beyond the boundaries of the ego.
  6. Timelessness - thoroughly focused on the present, hours seem to pass by the minute.
  7. Intrinsic motivation - whatever produces flow becomes it own reward.[68] w

for myself, Posing I easily achieve this state,as well as sketching and drawing, doodling.

I think for myself this is a key component "“Inducing flow is about the balance between the level of skill and the size of the challenge at hand.”, when not rushed, even doing carpentry,,all your materials are there, you know exactly what needs done, especially working with another,it can become as a well choreographed state of working,in say framing a house, where it is free of chaos, and distractions.

In Life Drawing Class this is a collective event, when all are quiet sketching away, you can almost hear the "Creation" in the air,one reason I love posing !
